| Arthur Schofield
was born in Goondiwindi on the 29th September 1921.
Arthur had completed a tailoring apprenticeship
by age 20 and worked both for his father at Schofield
and Vetter (Goondiwindi) and Albert Turner and Co.
(Sydney) before deciding to go into business on
his own.
Arthur and Joan formed the partnership Arthur
Schofield and Co. in 1950 and began business from
a workshop on the verandah of their house in Winton
Street, Goondiwindi. The business progressed there
until 1956 when the decision was made to move
to a shop in the main street.
In 1962 Arthur purchased the Schofield
and Vetter building. With the advice of commercial
travellers that called on Arthur, the business
was now retailing readi-made menswear as well
as employing three full-time tailoring hands.
In 1968 Arthur Schofield and Co. moved to its
present location. By this time Arthur's eldest
son, Leonard, had joined the business. Leonard
owns and runs the business today.
